Inversions Masterclass with Dean

Inverted āsanas are the most important and transformative āsanas we practice.

They affect us on every level — not just physically, but psychologically and spiritually as well. When we turn upside down, something shifts. The many systems of the body begin to come into harmony, and we start balancing not only the physical body, but also the energetic, emotional, and mental bodies.
Inversions can improve circulation and respiration, support digestion, strengthen the immune system, increase bone density, and even help slow the aging process. They tone the muscles and skin, reduce stress and anxiety, and build real self-confidence. On a subtler level, they sharpen concentration, stimulate the chakras, and cultivate a sense of tranquility, optimism, and spiritual connection. Some traditions even say that dedicated practice of inverted asanas can lead us toward Self-realisation.

We’ll break down the mechanics and alignment of postures like Śīrṣāsana (Headstand), Salamba Sarvāṅgāsana (Supported Shoulderstand), Pincha Mayūrāsana (Forearmstand), and Adho Mukha Vṛkṣāsana (Handstand) in a way that feels safe, accessible, and empowering. We’ll work with breath, focus, and intention.

This workshop is also a beautiful opportunity for yoga teachers who want to integrate more inversions into their classes with clarity and confidence. Many students — and teachers — carry fear around going upside down. Together, we’ll meet that fear with knowledge, refined technique, thoughtful progression, exploration, and trust. Instead of avoiding inversions, you’ll learn how to approach them skillfully, teach them intelligently, and create a space where your students feel supported, empowered and safe to explore.
